Terms of use
Plain-English terms
Last updated 2026-05-17. By using HushOS you agree to these terms.
What HushOS is
HushOS is a free, offline-first web app to help people with tinnitus live with the sound. It includes sound-based tools, breathing and relaxation exercises, evidence-informed psychological self-help (CBT and ACT material), guided meditations, and tracking surfaces (check-ins, questionnaires, audiograms).
What HushOS is not
- · It is not a regulated medical device.
- · It is not a diagnostic tool.
- · It is not a substitute for professional medical or psychological care.
- · It is not a cure or a guarantee. Tinnitus is highly individual.
When to see a doctor instead
Some kinds of tinnitus need a clinician, not an app. If your tinnitus is:
- · sudden in onset (especially with hearing loss),
- · one-sided,
- · pulsatile (in time with your heartbeat),
- · accompanied by vertigo, severe dizziness or balance problems,
- · paired with facial numbness, weakness, headaches, or visual changes,
- · or started after a recent head injury, whiplash, or loud blast,
please see a doctor first. HushOS will still be here when you are back. We surface this red-flag list inside the app, but you remain responsible for seeking appropriate medical care.
Free, no warranty
HushOS is provided free of charge, as-is and without warranty of any kind, express or implied — including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. To the maximum extent permitted by law, the operators of HushOS are not liable for any damages arising from your use of the app. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law (for example, in the UK, liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud).
Audio safety
HushOS plays sound through your device. You are responsible for setting a comfortable, safe volume. Listen at moderate levels, take breaks, and do not use the app while operating vehicles or machinery where attention is required. The app applies a global volume ceiling but cannot control your hardware volume.
Your responsibilities
- · Use HushOS for personal, non-commercial wellbeing purposes.
- · Do not submit unlawful, abusive, or impersonating content via feedback or story submissions.
- · Do not attempt to disrupt the service, automate scraping, or reverse-engineer for malicious purposes.
- · If you upload audio in "Your uploads", ensure you have the right to do so. Uploaded audio stays in your browser and is not sent to our servers.
Submissions you make
When you submit feedback or a story, you grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide licence to use the content for the purpose of improving HushOS and (in the case of stories you explicitly mark as shareable) publishing them anonymously on the site. We will never publish identifying details without your clear consent.
Intellectual property
The HushOS source code is publicly available on GitHub. The codebase is licensed under an open-source licence (see the repository for the current LICENSE file). The HushOS name and visual identity remain the property of the project operators. Third-party trademarks (including NICE, BTA, Tinnitus Talk, Treble Health) belong to their respective owners.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. Material changes will be announced in the changelog. Continued use of HushOS after changes are posted constitutes acceptance.

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any dispute will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales, except where mandatory consumer-protection laws in your country of residence provide otherwise.
