Yes, really. The evidence does not support cutting out coffee as a tinnitus intervention. A large prospective study from Glasgow in 2014 looking at over 65,000 women found that higher caffeine intake was associated with slightly lower rates of new tinnitus, not higher. Other studies are neutral. None has shown caffeine causes or worsens chronic tinnitus at the population level.
The individual story can differ from the population. Some people are sensitive to caffeine's stimulant effect, and an intense rush of arousal can sharpen perception of anything they are already attending to, including tinnitus. If that is you, the practical move is to keep your morning coffee and shift any caffeine to before noon. The afternoon and evening loudness tends to settle once caffeine is out of the system.
What you should not do is give up coffee out of vague guilt because someone on the internet told you. White-knuckled abstinence, especially during stressful periods, can do its own damage. Coffee is one of the simpler pleasures of a difficult condition. Keep it.
