Sit somewhere quiet, with a notebook nearby if you like, or just your phone. Take a moment to settle. The ringing is here. We are going to use it as a contrast, not as the focus.

Here is the question I would like you to sit with. If your tinnitus were not in the way today, what would you do that you have been putting off? Not all the things. Just three.

Take a moment. Picture your week. Picture the things that have shrunk because tinnitus has crept in. The walk you used to take. The friend you have not called. The book you have stopped reading because reading in silence feels too exposing. The conversation you have been avoiding. The quiet evening with your partner that you have been filling with screens instead. The cooking. The garden. The instrument.

Choose three. They do not have to be big. In fact, smaller is better. The three should be ordinary things — calling someone, walking somewhere, sitting for twenty minutes with a book — that you have stopped doing because tinnitus is in the room.

Now think about why each of those three matters to you. Not in a grand way. In a small, true way. Calling a friend matters because that friendship matters to you. Walking matters because being in your body matters to you. Reading matters because your mind matters to you. Each of these is pointing at a value — a direction you would like your life to head in.

And here is the move. Today, you are going to do one of them. Not all three. One. And you are going to do it with the tinnitus still in the room. Not when it gets quieter. Not when you feel better. Today. With the ringing there.

This is the heart of values-based action in Hayes's framework. You are not waiting for the weather to be perfect. You are heading in the direction of what matters, with everything you are carrying. That is what a life is built from.

Pick the one. Decide when, today, you will do it. Then close the app and go and do it.
